Long-term Closure Scheduled on Highway 77 in West Memphis

CRITTENDEN COUNTY | October 5, 2026

The Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) is beginning the next phase ofconstruction on a project to improve traffic flow and safety along Highway 77 near the Interstate 40 (I-40)/Interstate 55 (I-55) interchange in West Memphis.

Weather permitting, Highway 77 will be closed to through traffic between I-40 and Highway 191 (North 7th Street) beginning Wednesday, October 7. Highway 77 is expected to reopen in mid-2028.

Highway 77 traffic will be detoured to the newly constructed Highway 191 (North 7th Street). See detour map NR 26-156-A for more information. Access to local businesses along Highway 77 will be maintained while the detour is in place.

The closure allows crews to construct the new Highway 77 railroad overpass and associated roadway improvements. Motorists should expect significant changes to the current traffic pattern in the area.

Traffic will be controlled with the use of electronic message boards, barrier walls, barricades, and signage. Drivers are urged to use caution while traveling in the area.
