Rep. Chris Todd highlights $336.7M tourism impact in Madison County
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – State Rep. Chris Todd, R-Madison County, today highlighted the significant economic impact of tourism in Madison County, where visitors spent $336.7 million in 2025.
Visitor spending generated $13.6 million in local tax revenue and supported 2,858 jobs across the county last year, according to newly released data from Tourism Economics and the Tennessee Department of Tourist Development (TDTD). Madison County ranked 13th among Tennessee’s 95 counties in total visitor spending.
“It’s no surprise that Madison County continues to rank among Tennessee’s top destinations for visitors,” said Todd. “Our historic communities, incredible outdoor heritage and unique attractions give tourists plenty of reasons to spend time and money here. This spending puts millions of dollars back into our economy, supporting jobs and generating revenue that makes life better for the families who call this county home.”
Visitors spent an average of $922,468 daily on lodging, retail, transportation, recreation and dining throughout the county, generating $21.8 million in state tax revenue over the year.
“Tennessee is a sales tax state. The quality of our assets – whether that’s live music or entertainment or outdoors – are attractive to visitors,” said TDTD Commissioner Mark Ezell. “Every tax dollar captured from an out-of-state visitor is a dollar retained in Tennessee and used for Tennesseans. It’s incredible to see communities understanding the power of visitor spending, and leveraging that spending for the good of their residents.”
Statewide, Tennessee’s tourism industry generated a record $32.5 billion in direct visitor spending in 2025 and $3.3 billion in state and local tax revenue.
Tennessee’s 2.7% year-over-year growth in visitor spending outpaced the national growth rate of 1.9%. The state’s tourism economy has grown 40% since 2018, nearly double the national growth rate of 22%.
State Rep. Chris Todd represents District 73 in the Tennessee House of Representatives, which includes most of Madison County.
